Week 5- More mood boards and concept development

Image
Using my moodboards from last week, I began to further some of the ideas I gathered from these. I decided to make "The Cure" based off a plague doctor type aesthetic. I wanted to gather a range of different styles and interpretations, as I didn't want to go with something traditional, rather use the shapes, such as the beak and cloak as a nod, rather than distinctly a plague doctor Using this, I created a Photoshop document, with a base shape for the character, and a drew a few different ideas on top of it on different layers, to test some ideas. Seeing which ideas would work with each other.

Week 4- more pre production

Research was the key for this week. After previously studying Araki's design process, I had a starting point of which to begin. A lot of JJBA content references western music, particularly rock music. For example, the antagonist is named "Dio".  For the stand, I created moodboards and collected research surrounding the names a few different bands.  Such as,  Christian Death, Marilyn Manson,  And Misfits. The idea I chose to with was "The Cure" And although I created a siouxsie sioux/banshee moodboard, I decided to use this for my stand user

Week 3- Pre production

Pre production is a key part of any project, but for my FYP it's essential to really go in depth. Araki's process tend to research in depth, and shows in obscure references. But trying to capture Araki's style was the most important task, as the line work, cross hatch and thin proportions of his characters, are what make them reconcilable. I began with a simple bust of my stand user. I used my moodboards as well as flipping through various images from the anime in particular, trying to mimic the style. For my first iteration I focused more on the anatomy, such a the length of the nose, face, neck and the thickness of the eyes as well. I think it wasn't bad for a first attempt, I got the shape of the nose and upper body correct, but there are some issues with the proportions of the face, the changes in line thickness and the smoothness of the lines. I then created a second, more successful iteration, with an attempt at coloring, and improvident the cros

Week 2- Plan, plan, plan

Image
The initial stage of this project is creating my proposal, to make sure my idea gets the go ahead. This involved a lot of research, and by doing so I have already learned a lot about the starting process for my concepts. I had to give enough information about my project, and explain the level of research that comes with it, as well as find a way to explain my idea to someone who has never heard of the series. This also meant I had to draft out a plan. I will attempt to stick to it, but I am aware I may have to adapt and change it throughout the course of the project. My research also begins at this stage. Whilst I have a fan level understanding of JJBA, having learned base level knowledge of trivia and facts about character design and the lore, I had to delve further into the Araki's development process in order to try and create a character, not necessarily as he would, but so it would fit in with what he creates. I found many interviews, and even analysis videos, giving in
